Academics

Academics at Orion aims at the holistic development of its students, clarity of concepts, co relating theory with real life experiences and going beyond the world of text books. We at Orion help our   children to turn into fulfilled individuals who are confident and hold positive self-concept. We focus more on how to teach a particular concept than what to teach. We follow student-centered approach of learning through which classrooms move from direct instruction to a more community-driven environment, one which supports student empowerment, conversations, critical thinking skills, independence, and problem-solving techniques. We encourage the usage of techniques such as concept map and mind map to focus on concept clarity. We follow a wide range of teaching learning strategies such as :

Experiential Learning –

At Orion, we follow a learning process whereby students learn by doing and by reflecting on the experience. Experiential learning activities include providing of opportunities for students to survey, analyse, infer and document.

Inquiry based learning –

We follow the 5 E’s i.e. engage, explore, explain, elaborate and evaluate in order to encourage our learners to make real-world connections through exploration and high-level questioning.

Choice board –

Choice boards allow students to select activities they will complete to practice a skill or demonstrate understanding.

Remedial Learning –

Remedial Learning sessions are conducted on regular basis to reinforce difficult concepts taught during regular lectures. The aim of remedial learning sessions is to simplify certain complex concepts and make them easy to comprehend and grasp.

Inclusive Learning –

We are of the opinion that every child irrespective of cast, community and religion is entitled to education. We strive to seek through our teaching, learning and assessment methods that all students are able to engage meaningfully with the curriculum and achieve their full potential.

Competitive exams –

We provide various exposures to our children through competitive exams likes OLYMPIAD and NELTASwhich help students develop a set of skills and improves their aptitude. Participation in Olympiads gives an insight into the competition that exists in this world as the competition in school is limited. We believe that early exposure to competition and learning subjected through these competitive exams helps learners to know their potential in higher levels of competitive exams like NEET, JEE, CA, IAS, and UPSC exams.

Counselling –

We give a lot of importance to mental well being of our learners as it is the mental and emotional well being that ultimately shapes the personality from a young age. Our in-house counsellor provides valuable feedback on the complexities faced by our young learners as well as adolescent issues.

MUN (Model United Nations) –

Model United Nations is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues with policies and perspectives of their assigned countries.

Annual Project –

Orion has always been in the forefront in lending a helping hand towards any cause that concerns the environment. Stepping to do our bit in saving our Mother Earth and simultaneously striving to achieve the goals set by the United Nations, we undertake various Sustainable Developmental Goals of the United Nations as our annual projects where in the young learners are sensitized towards the grave issues faced worldwide like hunger, scarcity of clean drinking water, literacy, climate change etc.
